50 years ago, Mazda challenged standards with the introduction of the 1967 Mazda Cosmo Sport 110S -- the world's first-ever production twin-rotor, rotary-engine automobile and evidence that the company had successfully implemented rotary engine technology it licensed from NSU Motorenwerke AG and Wankel GmbH in 1961.After a debut at the 1964 Tokyo Motor Show, the Cosmo Sport alerted the automotive world to the fact that Mazda was now a forerunner in automotive technology.
This spirit of innovation remains at Mazda to this day. The company has expressed a goal of establishing an emotional connection with customers by providing human-centric vehicles that are engineered and designed to follow the company's philosophy of hashiru yorokobi: exhilaration, joy and well-being from driving.
