In June of 2013, the Mazda brand achieved its best June sales since 2007 thanks to a 13 percent increase over last year. The reason for this success can be attributed to the increasingly popular SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY that is found on many new Mazda and has prompted the Japanese automaker to ramp up production of its SKYACTIV transmissions by doubling its rate over the next couple years.

By doubling production, even more Mazda models will come equipped with this innovative technology to keep up with the growing demand. The automaker's plan is to increase productions from 750,000 units per year up to 1,114,000 units by July of 2014 at its Hofu Plant located in Yamaguchi, Japan. The ultimate objective is to bring the technology to at least 80 percent of its lineup, with the possibly of this number to also increase as the brand and its SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY continues to thrive.

Further goals of the Mazda brand include efforts to sell 1.7 million vehicles around the world by March 2016, the end of the fiscal year. To aid in attaining this goal, the Japanese automaker has been putting plans in motion to build a new transmission facility in Thailand. This plant is slated to produce 400,000 units every year and is expected to be up and running in the same year.
